Margaret Diener Stover, known as Peg, age 84, of State College, PA, died Saturday, January 8th, 2005, at the Atrium, the skilled nursing facility at the Village at Penn State, a Life Care community, after an illness of four months. She was the cherished wife of arthur M. (Smoke) Stover. This past November, Peg and Smoke, their children grand and great-grandchildren celebrated both Peg's 84th birthday and their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Born in Reading,PA, Peg was the oldest of three daughters of Esther (Scholl) and Stuart Diener. She and Smoke met when thy were students at Penn State University, where Peg became a member of Delta Gamma sorority, and married during WW II. Peg considered herself a fortunate woman throughout her whole life: she greatly enjoyed creating a beautiful home and family life for her husband and three lucky children, teaching high school home economics, realizing the dream of living life in a lovely historic home in Bucks County, PA, and experiencing a rich and lively retirement with many seasons of football games back at much-loved Penn State, her smokey always by her side. The memory of Peg's vibrant personality and love of life will be a joy and inspiration to all of her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Smoke, of the Village at Penn State; two daughters, Diane Holme and her husband, John, of Vermont and Patricia Stover and her husband Robert Flanagan of North Carolina; son, Peter Stover and his wife, Heather Entrekin of Kansas; two sisters, Patricia Barton and her husband, Carroll of Lancaster, PA and Louise Stoudt and her husband, James of Wyomissing, PA; a grandson Christopher Holme and his wife, Manaslu Gurung; granddaughter Jennifer troutman and her husband, Rufus; great- grandchildren Franklin Caval-Holme and Sariah Troutman, dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends, old and new, among them her DG sorority sisters and members of PEO, who will sorely miss her.
A service celebrating Peg's life, to be held at Faith United Church of Christ, 300 East College Avenue, State College, PA is being planned for Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 1:00 p. m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Palmer Museum of Art, Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, 16802, Attn. Ms. Betsy Warner, where Peg many happy hours as a docent.
