Obituary

Marian L. Pettingill of State College died Saturday, April 30, 2005 at her home. She was born in Shamokin, Pa, a daughter of the late Anthony and Mabel Volynch.
She was married to Mr. James W. Pettingill who survives in State College.
Mrs. Pettingill graduated from Bellefonte High School.
She worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Highways as a secretary. Later she became a secretary to the supervising principal of the Bellefonte High School.
During World War II she joined the Woman's Army Auxiliary Corps, where she earned the rank of First Sergeant, working in the Intelligence Division of the Army, while stationed in Florida.
After her marriage and military time, she and her husband moved to State College to work at Penn State University.
She was a very generous and loving mother and wife. Her hobbies included gardening, and bird watching. She was a member of State College Presbyterian Church, having served as a Deacon.
In addition to her husband, a son, Lance J. Pettingill, of Anna Texas, survives her. A sister Florence "Billy" Love preceded her in death.
The funeral for Mrs. Pettingill will be at 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, May 3, 2005 at the Eloise B. Kyper Funeral Home, Inc. 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA, with the Rev. Dr. Charles J. Curley officiating. There will be no public visitation. Entombment will be in the chapel mausoleum at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Centre Crossings Hospice, 2437 Commercial Blvd., Suite 6, State College, PA 16801.
