Marie Jane McGhee, 81, of State College. died Sunday, December 9, 2007, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College.
She was born July 11, 1926, at Minersville, PA, a daughter of the late Clarence E. and Olga Marie Gilger McGhee.
Ms. McGhee was the last of her generation, having been preceded in death by seven brothers. She is survived by many nieces and nephews living in various parts of the United States.
Marie graduated from Pottsville High School in 1944 and completed courses at Penn State University.
Marie was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church where she had served as a Deaconess for three years, was active in the Woman's Association of the church, and served as a Sunday School Teacher.
She retired form the State Employment Service after thirty-five years of service, having worked as a clerk-typist, and an employment counselor in Shamokin for thirteen years, and in State College for twenty-two years. She also worked for Prudential Insurance Company for eight years.
Active in the community Ms. McGhee served with the Voluntary Action Program, the prison transition program, and served as a tutor for the Mid-State Literacy Program. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting and needlepoint.
A graveside committal service will be held at 1:00 p. m. January 18, 2008 at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Shamokin. Marie's memorial service will be held at 11:00 a. m. January 19, 2008, at State College Presbyterian Church, 132 S. Beaver Ave., State College, PA.
