Obituary

Marie E. (Tressler) Rider passed away January 12, 2012, at the Wynwood House, Centre Hall. She was surrounded by the love and "chatter" of her children and grandchildren, just as she lived most of her life. Marie was born on March 24, 1923, the daughter of Jefferson and Lydia Tressler of Buffalo Run.
On May 25, 1940, she married Vaughn M. Rider in Bellefonte. The couple enjoyed 66 years of marriage before his passing on August 4, 2006. The couple began farming in Buffalo Run and later moved to the farm in Axemann, retiring from farming in 1984. As a farm wife and mother, Marie was a "Master" of many jobs. She was a wonderful homemaker, cook, and baker and will long be remembered for her pies, "sticky" buns, raisin-filled cookies, and her specialty, apple dumplings, which she enjoyed sharing with everyone.
Marie attended the Marshall School, a one-room schoolhouse for eight years, and despite being unable to attend high school, valued education and encouraged her loved ones to graduate from high school. She enjoyed attending many of her children's and grandchildren's school programs, concerts, and events, ready to offer her critique and praise, freely. Marie enjoyed gardening, home canning, family gatherings and helping others. Mom was a champion of lost animals as well as her pets and her farm animals. She was a charter member of the Buffalo Run United Methodist Church, a long-time member of the Logan Grange #109, the Pennsylvania State Grange and the National Grange organizations. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at the Centre Community Hospital for many years.
Marie is survived by her eight children:Vaughn (Shirley) of Pleasant Gap, Elaine Lutz (Kenneth) of Boonesboro, MD, Edwin (Karen) of Centre Hall, Randall (Mary) of Madisonburg, Juanita Wolfe (Harry) of Centre Hall, Kevin (Jenny) of Spring Mills, Ruby Hersh (David) of State College, and Leslie (Sheri) of Port Matilda. She is also survived by 28 grand children, 34 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews.
Marie was predeceased by her parents, husband, and her six siblings: Fannie Hamilton, David, Fred, Ralph, Thomas and Earl Tressler.
