IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Ellyn
"Pic" Johnson
April 13, 1938 – January 25, 2026
Mary Ellyn "Pic" Reed Johnson, who will be remembered for her joyful and courageous spirit, walked peacefully into her savior's presence, January 25, 2026, at the age of 87.
She was born on April 13, 1938, in Stormstown, Pa, to the late Robert Edgar Reed and H. LouEmma ("Sue") Witmer Reed, of Stormstown and State College, Pa. She grew up as the middle sister to her beloved brothers, Donald W. and Robert E. Reed. On October 26th, 1957, she wed Ronald William Johnson, and they were married until 1992. Together they had two children, Ronald G. Johnson and Jill L. Seybert, who were her pride and joy. One of her favorite roles in life was being "Gram" to her two grandchildren, Matt Seybert and Sarah Gladfelter. Family was one of her greatest values in life and no matter who you were, she'd welcome you in with open arms.
Her strong work ethic showed in everything that she did. She graduated from State College High School in 1956 and then went on to attend Penn State. She spent 25 years of her working career as a part owner and office manager of the family construction company. Through the years, she was also an office manager at the Elks Country Club (1989-1990) and a bookkeeper at Foxdale Village (1990-1997). Even after retirement in 1997, she continued to find fulfillment in working part time doing food service at the hospital.
She had a heart for service, always thinking of ways to generously give and show up for others. She served on the board of the Christian Woman's Club in State College for 18 years. She attended the CMA church, where she served as a deaconess and a member of the choir. She was also a former member of the Boalsburg Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and was actively involved in serving that organization.
Throughout her entire life, she had a passion for writing both poetry and articles, many of which were published. She was a devoted friend, always one call away for anyone who needed her. Her fun-loving spirit and energy carried her through the ups and downs of life. Above all else, her faith was the most important thing to her. Her legacy will live on through her love for Jesus, her family, and the many lives that she impacted.
She is survived by her son, Ronald G. Johnson and his wife, Cheryl of Centre Hall, Pa; and her daughter, Jill L. Seybert and her husband Ronald of State College, Pa. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Matt Seybert and his wife, Shelby (great grandchildren Ocean and Everest), and Sarah Gladfelter and her husband, Russ (great grandchildren Skye and Reed); and her brother Robert E. Reed, and his wife Marjorie. She is preceded in death by her brother Donald W. Reed and sister-in-law, Joye.
