Mary Emma Poorman, 70, of Tusseyville; died Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Centre Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre in Bellefonte.
She was born March 20, 1941, in College Township, a daughter of the late Elwood and Carrie Walker Houtz.
On April 27, 1963, she married Mahlon H. Poorman Sr. who survives at home.
Mary graduated from Penns Valley Area High School with the class of 1959.
She was a homemaker, and an excellent seamstress who also enjoyed arts and crafts, rubber stamping, making jewelry, and raising African Violets, having had more than one thousand plants in her house at one time.
One of her sources of pride, enjoyment, and meaning, was her membership in the Order of The Eastern Star, Chapter 207, in Centre Hall where she served as a past Worthy Matron.
Surviving Mary, in addition to her husband are two daughters, Jaunette Matis and her husband M. Todd of Spring Mills, Kathena P. Joseph and her husband Jeffrey of Dallas, TX; one son Mahlon H. Poorman Jr. and his wife Susan of Spring Mills; a step daughter Deborah Kennedy and her husband Dennis of Petersburg; a step daughter in law Dinah Poorman of Huntingdon, wife of her deceased stepson Gary Poorman; three grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; two sisters Linda Houtz and Mary Jo Wagner both of Centre Hall; and two brothers John Houtz of Lewistown and Rich Houtz of McVeytown.
Friends will be received from 6 - 7:30 p. m. on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall. An order of the Eastern Star service will follow immediately at 7:30 p. m. Burial will be in Emmanuel Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, Tusseyville at the convenience of the family.
