Maude Ella Smith Ilgen, died Friday, January 26, 2007 at Valley View Haven in Belleville, PA where she lived for the last 5 years.. She was born February 23, 1914 in rural Centre Hall, PA. She was a daughter of Adam F. and Mary Jane Henninger Smith. She was graduated from Boalsburg High School in June of 1930. She graduated from Lock Haven Normal School in 1933 as an elementary school teacher. She taught in Harris Twp. Schools for seven years. She was united in marriage to Dean W. Ilgen on December 23, 1939. She was preceded in death by her husband Dean, her parents and her 2 brothers, and 2 sisters.
She was an active life long member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Centre Chapter #207 in Centre Hall. She was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmers Mills where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was also voted volunteer of the year by the Retired Seniors Volunteer Organization.
She is survived by her five children, Duane Ilgen of Centre Hall, Jeanne (Dave) Bender of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Nelson (Robin) Ilgen of Denver, PA, Nancy(Harris) Lipton of Philadelphia, and Roger (Brenda) Ilgen of York, PA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters: Ruth Oemcke, and Nellie (Kenneth) Beatty, both residing in Connecticut.
Friends will be received from 11:00 a. m until noon Tuesday, January 30, 2007, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall. The funeral will follow immediately at noon with the Rev. Galen Sharp officiating. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA
