Obituary

Maurice R. Watson, 82, died Wednesday, April 5, 2006 at Centre Crest Nursing Home in Bellefonte.
Born on June 3,1923 in Union Township, Centre County, he was a son of the late Merrill A. and Ruth Bierly Watson.
Maurice graduated from Bellefonte High School and the Coyne Electrical Trade School in Chicago, IL. During World War II he served his country in the U.S. Army Company "C" participating in the Battle of Normandy and earning two Bronze Stars,the Victory Medal, the American Theater Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal. He was held as a POW for nine months until his release in 1945.
On May 17, 1947 he married Betty Ilene Confer who died on September 16, 2000.
For 34 years Mr. Watson worked as an electrical draftsman for Penn State University, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bellefonte and the Ex-POW Association.
His survivors include his two daughters, Denise Connelly and her husband Ronald of Pennsylvania Furnace and Donna Frantz and her husband Daniel of State College; two sisters, Jean Emerson of The Dales, OR and Edith Macareth of Woodland, PA; three brothers, Albert of Bellefonte, David of Runville, and Thomas of Milesburg; five grandchildren, Michelle Kuhn and Melanie Stine both of Bellefonte and Christopher Connelly of Bellefonte, Lori Connelly of Harrisburg, and Kari Connelly of Pennsylvania Furnace; and four great grandchildren, Adam, Aubrey, Garrett, and Gavin Kuhn of Bellefonte.
Maurice was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Blanchard, and by his grandson, Timothy Connelly.
Friends and family will be received from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral & Cremation Services 1034 Benner Pike, State College on Friday, April 7, 2006. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM with the Rev. Gerry Horton officiating. A graveside service will follow at Centre County Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Bellefonte, 539 Jacksonville Rd., Bellefonte, PA and the Alzheimer's Association, 2790 W. College Ave., State College, PA 16801.
