Melverta M. Dunkle, 91, of Centre Hall, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at Centre Crest.
Born on October 3, 1915 in Jacksonville, she was the daughter of the late William and Catherine Harter Beightol.
In November 1936 she married John J. Dunkle. They enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage. They began their lives together as farmers in the Nittany Valley. In the early 1950's they bought a dairy farm in the Penns Valley area where they finished raising their sons. They moved to Centre Hall to begin their retirement years.
After Melverta gave up canning and cooking she took up embroidery work and word search puzzles.
She was a long time member of Emmanuel Union Church of Christ in Tusseyville and its Sunshine Class.
She is survived by three sons; Roy and his wife, Catherine of Centre Hall, Harry of Millheim, and Garry of Bellefonte; also six grandchildren, Joshua, Korry, Sean, Jason and his wife, Sarah, Dianna and her husband, Paul, and John and his wife, Corrina; as well as a number of great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her last remaining sister, Louise Gardner of Howard, a sister-in-law, Thelma Dunkle also of Howard, and a brother-in-law, Oscar Dunkle of Mingoville.
She was preceded in death in December 1993 by her husband, John and in February 2005 by her son Paul.
Funeral serrvices were held on Wednesday Nov. 1st at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral & Cremation Services, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall with the Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Burial followed at the Hublersburg Cemetery.
