Obituary

Melvin E. Furner Sr., 74, of Centre Hall went home to be with the Lord, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College, on Monday, March 15, 2004, after fighting a long and courageous battle with cancer and leukemia.
He was born July 28, 1929 in Lewistown, a son of the late John E. and Verna Kessinger Furner.
On November 19, 1952 he married Trudi Reber who survives at home.
He attended East Penns Valley High School in Millheim. He was a former member of Centre Hall Lions Club, and attended Trinity United Church of Christ in Centre Hall, PA
Mr. Furner served in the U. S. Army.
He was employed by O. E. Houts in State College for 38 years.
He especially enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and taking daily walks. He deeply loved and missed the family dog Fritz who died April 9, 2003 at age 17.
In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Melvin (Ed) Furner Jr. and his wife Carol of Axemann; and a sister Martha Spadaccino of Newtown, PA.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Austin Furner.
At his request there will be no public funeral or memorial services.
