Obituary

Myra Belle Miller, 106, of State College, PA, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2022, at Foxdale Village Continuing Care Retirement Community in State College, PA.

She was born on November 30,1916 in State College, PA, the 7th child of Francis A. Miller and Sarah Maude Kimport Miller.

Myra Belle, or Belle, as she was known by family members, was a graduate of State College High School.  Her working career was spent at the Patee Library on the Penn State campus as a library assistant.  After her retirement in 1970 she enjoyed spending winters in Georgia with close friend Jeanne Lebkicher, as well as summers at home in State College tending to her yard and flower garden.  Myra Belle has been described by a nephew as the "rock" of the Miller family.  She organized numerous family reunions for her eight siblings, as well as nieces and nephews, which brought everyone together for weekends of fun and the renewal of family bonds.  Myra Belle assumed the care of her mother in her elder years, and more recently she served as companion and caregiver for her eldest sister. She was the only member of the family to ultimately reside in State College and so, accordingly, she made her home a welcoming place for family to visit.

She is survived by six nephews and nieces: Richard (Dick) Miller of Sebring Fla, Judy Hazen (Steve) of Meadville PA, Geoffrey Hornbeck (Ann) of Greenwich CT, Dr. Thomas Miller (Jill) of Lewisberry, PA, Robert Walker III of Norfolk VA, Elizabeth Walker of Wake, VA.; eleven great nieces and nephews; and twelve great-great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her eight siblings, Harry Miller (Sarah), John Miller (Helen), W. Joseph Miller (Martha), Louise Ramstedt (Fred), Ruth Miller, Helen Hornbeck (James), June Strickland, and Betty Walker (Robert); a niece Christina Hornbeck Reeder, and nephew Randy Walker; and close friends Augusta Hyslop and Jean Lebkicher.

Private funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Haky/Georgiana Centre County Funeral Home in State College where condolences can be sent.  Inurnment will be held at the Centre County Memorial Park in State College. Memorial gifts can be sent to: St. Paul's Methodist Church, 250 E. College Avenue, State College, PA 16801, and Foxdale Continuing Care Retirement Community, 500 E. Marylyn Avenue, State College, PA 16801.
