Nancy Adams McCord, 76, of State College, died Monday, October 18, 2010 at her residence.
Nancy was born March 9, 1934, in Warren, Ohio, a daughter of the late Norman W. and Harriett Rex Adams.
On October 18, 1958 she married Robert Earl McCord who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western College for Women in Oxford, Ohio. She began her work at Penn State in 1956 as Personnel Assistant in the Employment Division. She was one of the original campus tour guides at Penn State and a regular presenter of the "Consumer Tip" for the Cooperative Extension Service on "Farm, Home and Garden" for more than ten years. Her Penn State employment included working as a program specialist with the Coordinating Council for Continuing Education in Health Care and writing a newsletter for WPSX. The last ten years of her career were as a conference coordinator for Conferences and Institutes at Penn State University.
She received the "Outstanding Young Woman" award in 1960, which recognized her dedication, diligence and competence in her field. She received other awards while working at Penn State, including the Exemplary Program Award for her work with Elderhostels.
She was a member of the State College Presbyterian Church, the Faculty Women's Club, the B.P.O.E. (Elks), a life member of the Centre Community Hospital Auxiliary, the Mount Nittany Society, and Friends of the Palmer Museum of Art, UCEA and OLLI.
Nancy was a descendant of the sitters depicted in the 1799 painting, "Mother and Son" by John Brewster, Jr., which she donated to the Palmer Museum of Art.
Survivors include her daughter, Kelley McCord of State College; Robert (Kathy) of San Rafael, California; and Peter (Jennifer) of Dunkirk, New York; a brother, Norman Adams of Gulf Breeze, Florida; and four grandchildren, Ryan and Meghan McCord and Andrea and Max Krohe. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lucinda Leard, and a brother, Roger Adams.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
