Nelson L. Wheeler, 91, of Pine Grove Mills passed away Monday, March 15, 2021, at the Wynwood House, Boalsburg.

He was born November 9, 1929, in Lewistown, PA; a son of the late James Nelson and Margaret (Clark) Wheeler. On February 19, 1950, he married Shirley (Soyster) Wheeler who preceded him in death on August 12, 2016.

Nelson was a draftsman for ARL from 1948-1956 then HRB from 1956-1995, until his retirement.

He was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pine Grove Mills and the Ferguson Township Lions Club. He also started the Boys and Girls Club in Pine Grove Mills. Nelson enjoyed the outdoors especially hunting and fishing. He loved soccer, baseball, and basketball. He was a great volunteer in the community, in 2011 he was Volunteer of the Year at Mt. Nittany Medical Center. Nelson was a true family man. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were everything to him.

Nelson is survived by his three children; Bonnie McMiniment of State College, Gregory Wheeler Sr. of Bellefonte and Todd Wheeler (Kathleen) of Pine Grove Mills; five siblings, Dolores Rhoades, Marlene Fisher, Eugene Wheeler (Darla), Eileen Workinger (Robert), Thomas Wheeler (Linda); eight grandchildren, Tricia McMiniment (Sara), Amanda Wheeler, Gregory Wheeler Jr. (Lisa), April Wilken (Josh), Alison Cook (Alan), Jessica Michael, Toni Wheeler (Tom) and Todd Wheeler; he is also survived by six great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by many nephews and nieces who will miss him dearly.  He was a favorite.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Yoder.

All services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Entombment will take place at Centre County Memorial Park, State College.
