Benson Hay
October 28, 1932 – January 31, 2021
Norma Marie Benson Hay left her earthly family to join her heavenly family on January 31, 2021. She was born October 28, 1932 at Philipsburg, PA. She spent her childhood and youth in Pine Grove Mills with her parents, William and Emma (Gustafson) Benson who preceded her in death.
Norma, class of 1950 of State College High School, graduated from Penn State in June 1953 with certifications in Mathematics and Science Education. She taught in Beaver, Tyrone and Bedford School Districts and retired in 1990.
On June 20, 1953, she married Dorlin W. Hay, who preceded her in death on January 2, 2018. One sister survives her, Gloria Benson Wissinger. She is survived by three children: Brian (Barbara) Hay of Peshtigo, WI; Brenda Hay of Bellefonte; Arlene (Steven) Trevitz of Mercersburg, PA and 5 grandchildren whom she loved spending time with, Derek, Andrea, Daniel, Vanessa, and Hanna. Two grandsons, Jonathan and Benjamin, preceded her in death. Norma treasured time with her 7 great grandchildren.
She and her husband Dorlin had a farm and raised beef cattle in Bedford County from 1958-1998 and then retired to Pine Grove Mills. Norma enjoyed the natural world outdoors and traveling in God's beautiful creation in the USA. In Bedford County she assisted Child Evangelism Fellowship and taught Sunday School.
Norma knew Jesus Christ as her Savior and was a member of First Baptist Church, Bellefonte. She was thankful to God for giving her life, and that He was her Great Physician! She was thankful for the many people who provided loving care, faithful support and intercessory prayer. God always supplied her needs. The family would like to extend their thanks to all of the medical people and facilities who treated Norma with tremendous professionalism, care and love during her many illnesses.
There will be no public viewing. Interment will be in the Centre County Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held on February 19, 2021 at noon at First Baptist Church, Bellefonte, PA. Memorial contributions may be given to Missions Fund, First Baptist Church, 539 Jacksonville Rd. Bellefonte, PA 16823.
