Norma Woika, 91, a long-time resident of State College, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026. Norma was born in Wheeling, WV, but grew up in Dubois, PA where she met her future husband Jack in high school when they both worked at the same ice cream store. Jack and Norma married in 1955 and moved to State College in 1959. For over 50 years, they lived on Park Lane in Park Forest Village, where they raised their three children. Most recently, Norma resided at the Village at Penn State.
Norma and Jack were part of the fabric of State College. Norma retired from Penn State University where she worked in the College of Health and Human Development (Nutrition Department), receiving numerous awards. She was a member of the Park Forest United Methodist Church and was the church treasurer and on the church board for many years. In the late 1960's, Norma was one of the founders of the Park Forest Village Day Nursery (now known as Park Forest Preschool) which provides free early childhood education to families in need, and she spent countless hours there as a volunteer.
But more than anything else, Norma enjoyed being with and having fun with her family. She was always up for a card game or board game with her family members, especially her grandchildren. "Grammy" was very proud of all of her grandchildren.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband Jack, and is survived by her three children and their spouses (Michael and Mary Jean Woika, Dale and Shirley Woika, and Nancy and Vince Marion), 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren.
