Norman Daniel Bayletts' Obituary
Norman Daniel Bayletts, 93, of Shingletown, died Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at his home.
He was born November 15, 1917, in Bellefonte, a son of the late Daniel and Mae Mary Markle Bayletts. Having lost his father at age two, he was raised in the Bethany Children's Home in Womelsdorf, through his late teen years.
He married Prudence Eileen Barkhymer on September 3, 1949; who preceded him in death on August 5, 2010.
Norman graduated from Harris Township High School. Taking his civic responsibility seriously, Norman served in the U. S. Army Air Corps during World War II, from November 1, 1941, through December 1, 1945. He earned the rank of Sergeant, and earned an American Defense Medal, American Theater Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of Our Lady Victory Catholic Church in State College.
Mr. Bayletts worked at the Pennsylvania State University as a carpenter and in landscape maintenance, retiring in March of 1978, after twenty seven and one half years of service. He enjoyed hiking and spending time out of doors. Mr. Bayletts was an avid baseball fan especially of the Giants, and enjoyed Penn State sports.
Surviving are his two sons Richard N. Bayletts of Pennsylvania Furnace, and David D. Bayletts and his wife Maria of Shingletown; two grandsons Nathan and his wife Katie, and Troy Bayletts; two sisters, Jean Schilling of Renovo and Betty Klinger of Shingletown.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by a daughter Mary Ann; a daughter in law Karen L. Bayletts; one sister Irene Grove and one brother Harry Bayletts.
Friends will be received from 1 - 2 p. m. Sunday, July 3, 2011; at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service P. C. 1034 Benner Pike, State College. The funeral will follow immediately at 2:00 p. m. with the Reverend Bryan McNally officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park 1032 Benner Pike, State College.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Home Nursing Agency, 450 Windmere Drive # 100, State College, PA 16801 or to State College Area Food Bank P. O. Box 97 State College, PA 16804
