Obituary

Orvis Pershing Gardner, 86, of Bellefonte, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at his residence.
He was born in Howard Twp. on July 4, 1920 to the late Frank and Dora Haupt Gardner. He was the last of his generation.
He attended Howard and Bellefonte schools.
On February 16, 1947 he married Dorothy Pepperman who preceded in him death in December of 1993.
He, as well as his four other brothers served in US Army during WW II. He was a Medic in the infantry division receiving Oakleaf Clusters and a Bronze Star.
After the service he worked as a selfemployed carpenter until his retirement in 1978.
He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Bellefonte, a life member of the Bellefonte VFW, and a life member of the Milesburg-Boggs Twp. Senior Citizens. He was also an avid fisherman.
He is survived by three sons, Orvis F. Gardner and his wife Pat of Port St. Lucie, FL, Robert A. Gardner and his wife Charlotte of Millsprings, NC, James D. Gardner of Bellefonte; two daughters, Mary Ellen Nichols and her husband Steve of Bellefonte, Barbara Jean Hopkins of Bellefonte; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and by his care giver and companion Jane McLarren.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by four brothers, Earl H., George A., Dewey I., and Herman D. Gardner; and three sisters, Bernice Shuey, Larue Walker, and Irene Moyer.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, May 16 ,2007 at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services PC, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801. The funeral service will be at 11 AM on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at the funeral home with Rev. Stephen R. Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at the Centre County Memorial Park.
