Paul M. Anderson's Obituary

Paul Milton Anderson, 98, of State College, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on April 1, 2026, at Juniper Village at Brookline. Paul was born to Thomas Harrison Anderson and Jennie Edith Nicholas Anderson on June 27, 1927, in Indiana, PA.

Paul graduated from Homer City High School in June 1944 and was the class Valedictorian. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in August of 1944, where he attended the Army Specialized Training Program at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute, now Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia. He then entered active service in the Army Air Forces in July 1945 at Kessler Field, Mississippi in the 3704th Army Air Forces Unit. He was honorably discharged in November 1946 with the rank of Corporal. He was on Army Air Forces Reserve Duty from December 1946 to December 1949.

After his active service Paul attended The Pennsylvania State University receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1950. He was then employed as an assistant farm manager at the Woodsville State Hospital near Carnegie Pennsylvania. It was at the Woodsville facility where he met his wife Jean Supinsky, where she worked as a nurse. Paul and Jean returned to Penn State in November 1951 where Paul was a faculty instructor and worked to receive a Master of Science degree in 1957. While earning his Master’s degree he taught courses in Rural Electrification and Farm Power and Machinery. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1958 and was named Associate Professor in 1964.

While teaching at Penn State Paul also conducted research in spraying equipment, bulk milk cooling equipment, stray electrical voltage, and methods for harvesting, storing and preserving quality forage crops. His most notable research accomplishments were in coordination with co-worker William L. Kielgaard, where he is co-owner of four patents on the method and apparatus for adiabatic expansion of liquid anhydrous ammonia. Paul retired from Penn State after 40 years of service in December 1991. He is a member of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers and the American Society for Engineering Education. He is also an honorary member of Alpha Epsilon and Gamma Sigma Delta and is named in American Men and Women in Science.

Preceded by his wife Jean Anderson of 63 years, he is survived by three children, Barry (Terry) Anderson, of Danville, PA; Steve (Debbie) Anderson, of Bordentown, N.J., and Lori Anderson (Steve) of Greenville, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jessie (Julie) Anderson and Paul’s two great grandchildren Arthur and Annabelle; Derrick Anderson; John (Tolga) Anderson; and Katelyn Anderson; Jessica Marshall; Dennis Marshall.

Paul was an active member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Grove Mills, PA where he served numerous roles over the years including church council, usher, property and building.

Some of his hobbies included gardening, camping and cooking in his early years, doing Suduko, Numerix puzzles and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan attending Penn State sporting events including football, basketball and wrestling as well as Pittsburgh Pirates baseball games.

Friends and family will be received on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Saint Paul Lutheran Church at 277 W Pine Grove Rd, Pine Grove Mills, PA 16868. The funeral service will immediately follow with Pastor Paul Tomkiel officiating.

Interment will take place at Centre County Memorial Park, State College.
