Paul C. Lutz, 93 (and a ½ ) of Boalsburg (and most recently at Harmony, State College, PA) died May 12, 2023. Born October 3, 1929 in Axemann, PA he was the son of the late Madeline Workman and stepson of the late Richard Workman. On August 28, 1948 he married Lois L. (Smith) Lutz who preceded him in death on April 7, 2017.
Paul joined the Army near the end of WWII at 16 years of age and had the distinction of serving in the newly formed Constabulary. He also was in the Naval Reserves and was called into service for the Korean War, serving on the USS Oriskany CV34 until May 1952. He then worked until retirement as a forestry camp prison guard at Rockview State Penitentiary. Once retired from Rockview, he continued working at several positions until he was in his early 80's. He always kept busy and would find projects in the house and yard to work on. He loved visiting with family and putting puzzles together.
Paul was a charter member (1958) of the Knights of Columbus, Fr. O'Hanlon Council 4678, a member of the 4th Degree Assembly 1945 as well as serving in the capacity of Outside Guard for many years. You could always find him at the K of C Monday night Bingo games having fun with the bingo ladies. He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church since 1950 and was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 245, Pine Hall, PA.
Paul is survived by four children, Deborah Lutz, Ronald (Jacqulin) Lutz, Patricia Lutz and Carol (James Frank) Johnson as well as three grandchildren, Hiedi (Scott) Smith, Renee Lutz and Sarah (Josh) Pruitt and three great grandchildren, Grace and James Smith and Christopher Carter. He is also survived by a brother, David (Sandra) Workman. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by sisters Geraldine (George) Lucas, Mildred (James) Rimmey, and brother George (Jean) Lutz.
Friends will be received from 6:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at the Haky/Georgianna Centre County Funeral Home, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA and on Friday, May 19, 2023 at the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, PA 16801, beginning at 9:00 a.m. with the Funeral Mass to follow at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. George Jakopac and Deacon David Lapinski officiating. Burial at the Centre County Memorial Park and a luncheon at the Our Lady of Victory Activities Center will follow.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Paul's memory may be made to the Knights of Columbus, 820 Westerly Parkway, State College, PA 16801 or to Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church.
