Pauline M. Hommel, age 95, of State College, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at the Fairways of Brookline in State College.
Born November 22, 1912, she was a daughter of the late George L. and Mary (Hartman) Zechman.
Pauline was a licensed practical nurse for the Laurelton State School and Hospital. After her retirement, she was a volunteer at Mount Nittany Medical Center working in the gift shop. She volunteered at blood drives for the American Red Cross and was also a volunteer for the Voluntary Action Center, where she received the Volunteer of the Year award in 1986. Pauline also did various private duty nursing jobs and worked at an assisted living facility.
Mrs. Hommel was very active in her church, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Grove Mills, where she devoted much of her time helping when she was needed, as well as being an active quilter for the church.
Mrs. Hommel is survived by one son; John Hommel and his wife Janet of Minneapolis, MN, three daughters; Jean Weaver of Mifflinburg, Mary Goerder and her husband Robert of State College and Marian Faith of State College, eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Pauline's family would like special recognition to be given to her very competent and dedicated care giver who wishes to remain anonymous.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30 pm on Sunday, October 26, 2008, at St Paul Lutheran Church, 277 W. Pine Grove Road, Pine Grove Mills, with the Reverend Gregory P. Harbaugh Officiating.
