Peggy Jane Riter 81, of Bellefonte, died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at the Meadows Health Care Centre of the Tel Hai Retirement Community in Honey Brook.

She was born May 22, 1934 in Bellefonte, a daughter of the late Harry and Rose Emel Martin.

On November 23, 1961 she married Philip E. "Gene" Riter Sr. who preceded her in death April 14, 1999.

Peggy graduated from Bellefonte High School. Early in life she worked in Wagner's Clothing Store in Bellefonte, and later in the meat department of Acme Markets, and was a homemaker most of her life.

Mrs. Riter enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. After the passing of her husband Gene, she enjoyed the company of her dog, "Lady" and cat "Boots"

Surviving Mrs. Riter is one son Philip E. Riter Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Downingtown; two grandchildren, Madison and Taylor Riter and a sister Emma Lou Eckenroth of Bellefonte.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sisters, Elby June Witherite and Betty Murray and one brother Kenneth Martin.

Friends will be received from 11:00 a. m. Wednesday until 12:00 p. m. at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service P. C. 1034 Benner Pike, State College with the Reverend David Downer officiating. The funeral will follow immediately at noon, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, State College, PA
