Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Philip Douglas Bench announce his passing on January 20 th in State College, PA.

Phil was born to Lois and Henry Bench on June 25, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Highland High School, and studied at the University of Utah, Quinnipiac College, and Southwestern University. The first part of his career was in the computer industry. He worked for major manufacturers including:  Intel Corporation, Unisys Corporation, Wang Laboratories, and Novell Corporation.  Later he switched his focus to real estate, working for Coldwell Banker in Salt Lake City; then founding Village Realty Group in Woodbury CT; and finally founding Village Realty Group in State College, PA.

Phil was the High Priest Group Leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, in State College, PA.

Phil played the drums in two Utah bands - Southbound in the 1980s and Fever in the 1990s. He loved the music of the Beatles. He also loved camping with family members in his motor home, especially in Yellowstone Park.

Survived by his wife Debra Price and step-daughter Megan, Mother Lois Bench; brothers Robert and Larry Bench. Children Ryan Bench [Trishia]; Scott Bench [Tami]; Shauna Bench; and Steve Bench. Grandchildren: Alexia; Elise; Cadin; Kaitlyn; Caleb; Tristan; Kennedy and Emery. Preceded in death by his father Henry Bench.  Phil's daily companion was Jerry the family cat.

Visitation will be 6-8 PM, Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College and 9:00-9:45 AM, Thursday, January 25 th at The Church of Jesus Christ Latter-day Saints, 842 W. Whitehall Road, State College.  The funeral will follow at 10:00 at The Church. Interment will be in Centre County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations for the General Missionary Fund can be made out to: State College Ward and mailed to: Bishop Matt Gardner, 109 Cherrywood Road, Port Matilda, PA  16870.
