Philip D. Lucas' Obituary
Philip D. Lucas, 81, of Howard went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 14, 2008 at the Centre Crest Nursing Center in Bellefonte.
He was born on June 12th, 1927 in Boggs Township, a son of the late Milford E. and F. Maxine (Gault) Lucas.
On January 16, 1951, he was married to Dora A. Richner, who survives at home.
He attended the Bellefonte High School.
He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.
Phil joined the Howard Grange # 297 on April 4, 1942, and served as a Master with the Grange, a position he held for many years. He was also a member of the Centre County Pomona Grange, Pennsylvania State Grange, and the National Grange.
He served on the Centre County Grange Fair Board from 1987 until 2001. He served as Superintendent of the Dairy and Beef Departments. He also served on the committee to improve the fairgrounds to make them more accessible for those with physical disabilities and to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act regulations.
He retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1973 and was a lifetime member of the Mount Eagle Church of Christ where he served as an elder. He was a mastercraftsman in woodworking and enjoyed teaching woodworking for the Bald Eagle 4-H Club for twelve years. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader of the Milesburg Troop 45.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Hazel M. Davidson and her husband Robert L. of Howard, and Doreen L. Packer and her husband Wayne L. of Lancaster; one son, Philip E. Lucas and his wife Susan J. of Bellefonte; three sisters, E. June Gettig and Dorothy M. Crock, both of Howard, and Judy E. Hernandez of State College; two brothers, Milford E. and Richard G. Lucas, both of Howard; eight grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Donald Lucas.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Milesburg Assembly of God Church, Route 220 South, Milesburg on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 6:30 PM with Dwight Bolin officiating. Family will receive friends following the Memorial Service until 9 PM at the church.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mount Eagle Church of Christ Building Fund, PO Box 855, Milesburg, PA 16853.
