Phyllis L. Tate, 72, of State College, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.
She was born March 8, 1936, in Bellefonte, a daughter of the late Harold and Rose Emel Tate.
She was married to Robert Duck Sr. a long-time friend who survives in Cary, NC.
Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Barbara A. Gill and her husband Danny of Madisonburg, and Penny L. Leigey and her husband Ronald of rural Spring Mills; three sons, Robert Duck Jr. and his wife Vicki of Huntingdon, Harrison Duck and his wife Cheryle of San Diego, CA, and Wayne Duck and his wife Genea of Huntingdon; thirteen grandchildren, and fourteen great grandchildren.
A person of great determination and perseverance Mrs. Tate graduated from Bellefonte High School in 1982 with her daughter Penny, then went on to South Hills Business School and graduated with her daughter Barbara in 1984.
In addition to being a homemaker, Mrs. Tate was employed in several types of work through the years associated with farming, transportation, manufacturing, food service, and most recently as a receptionist for the American Cancer Society.
In her early years, she attended Green Grove Brethren in Christ Church near Spring Mills. She was a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the State College V. F. W. She was an accomplished seamstress who also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, ceramics, her pets, and shopping with her granddaughter.
Friends will be received from 10:00 a. m. until 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a. m. with the Reverend Julia Piper officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family at Meyer Cemetery, rural Bellefonte.
