Rhome H. Breon, of The Oaks at Pleasant Gap, formerly of State College, died Saturday, November 18, 2006 at his home.
He was born May 23, 1914 a son of the late Daniel and Nora Tressler Breon
Early in life Mr. Breon lived with his companion Stella Mastalski Snyder who preceded him in death. On Dec. 29, 1945 he married Mildred Chatnick who preceded him in death on Dec. 3, 1986.
He is survived by three brothers, Charles L. Breon and his wife Elizabeth (Betty)of State College, Maurice (Shorty) Breon and Harry Breon both of Bellefonte; two step daughters, Barbara Kirk of Fort Washington, and Mildred Hudak of Greensburg his grandchildren and step grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Victoria (Torry)Breon and Patricia (Patsy) Breon; two step daughters Jean Anthony and Dorothy Oliver; four sisters, Lydia Long, Edna Harpster, Madeline McCullough-Pollard and Miriam (Mim) Kustanbauter; and a brother John Breon.
Rhome attended State College High School.
During World War II he served in the U. S. Army from November 28, 1942 until Dec. 13, 1945 when he was honorably discharged with the rank of Technician 5th Grade. He earned a Good Conduct Medal, and American Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and a World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Breon was employed in the Food Services Division at Penn State University as a meat cutter retiring as a supervisor in the meat department after more than thirty years of service.
An avid and accomplished athlete, he played baseball for the Lytle's Additon and Woodycrest teams in State College. He was an avid bowler and for years held honor of having won the only 244 Dux Pin Award in the State College area.
He was a member of Mt. Nittany United Methodist Church in State College; the American Legion in Pleasant Gap and The Troop I 103 Cavalry of Boalsburg.
Friends will be received at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA, from 7-9 p. m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, November 22, 2006 with the Rev. Howard T. Woodruff officiating. Burial will in Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA
