Obituary

Richard D. Howell, 80, of State College, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2011, following an extended illness.
Born on June 1, 1930 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, he was a son of the late Paul and Fern Howell.
On December 31, 1978, he was married to the love of his life, Mary Ruth (Davis) Howell, who survives at home.
Dick honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Howell was employed by CATA and PSU, until his retirement in 1995.
He had attended the State College Assembly of God Church, was a member of the Liberty Township Sportsmen's Club, and enjoyed, along with his wife, camping, boating, fishing, and traveling. Dick especially loved the ocean where the annual family reunion was held. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Barry Phillips of Lewistown, Rick and Daniel Howell, both of Indiana; six daughters, Donna Day and Donita Gibboney of State College, Chris Saalfrank, Cindy Bennett, Tamara Roberts, and Susan Foreman, all of Indiana; twenty seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two children, Michael and Deborah Howell; a sister, Pat Howell; and a brother, Bob Howell.
A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family with Pastor Paul Grabill officiating. Interment will be at Centre County Memorial Park.
