Richard "Doc" L. Winstead, 82, of Houserville, went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, Jan. 4, 2007 at Centre Crest in Bellefonte.
He was born March 29, 1924 in Huntingdon, PA; a son of the late Walter Leon and Edith Cummins Winstead.
On Dec. 8, 1945 he married Betty Louise Robinson who preceded him in death July 8, 1987. On November 19, 1988 he married Phyllis K. Breon Ripka Winstead who survives at home.
After high school Richard served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
He was employed at Rockview State Correctional Institution, retiring as an infirmary supervisor, after 27 years of service.
Richard was a member of Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church, the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks in Bellefonte, and the State College area V. F. W. and American Legion.
He enjoyed organizing things and tinkering.
He received the World War II service award from State Representative Kerry Benninghoff.
In addition to is wife, he is survived by two daughters, Jean M. Morey and her husband Rance, of Snow Shoe and Bonnie K. Kistler and her husband Jerry, of Florida; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren, two brothers, the Rev. Donald Leon Winstead of Altoona and Eugene Bishop of Lewistown; and a step son John W. Ripka and his wife Linn of Pleasant gap and one step grandson.
Friends will be received from 1:00 p. m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Osif of Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church and the Rev. William Smith of Milesburg Assembly of God officiating.
Entombment will be in the Chapel Mausoleum at Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA
