Robert (Bob) A. Guiser, 68, of Port Matilda, died Friday, February 25, 2011, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.
He was born October 28, 1942 in Bellefonte; a son of the late Lawrence H. and E. Elizabeth Korman Guiser
On August 31, 1965 in Delaware, he married Rosey Ann Sowers who preceded him in death on April 10, 2006.
Bob is survived by one daughter Jo Ann Vargo and her husband Christopher of Greenville, South Carolina; three sons, Timothy J. Guiser of State College, Jerry L. Guiser and his wife Valerie of Groton, CT, and Jeffrey L. Guiser of Bellefonte; nine grandchildren; and one sister Joyce M. Raab and her husband Leonard of Albuquerque, NM.
Bob graduated from Penns Valley High School in 1960. He served in the U. S. Navy from August 21, 1961 through September 2, 1970, during the Viet Nam War, earning a National Defense Service Medal, a Viet Nam Campaign Medal with Device, a Viet Nam Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
After spending nine years in the Navy, Mr. Guiser worked as a computer programmer at Penn State University, retiring after twenty six years of service. Following his retirement, he worked at Wal-Mart for several years.
Mr. Guiser was a member of St. John United Church of Christ in Boalsburg, and a member of the V. F. W. and the American Legion.
He especially enjoyed participating in turkey shoots, hunting, fishing, camping, and working on genealogies. He had a fascination with the culture of the old west and enjoyed old western and cowboy movies, as well as older Country and Western Music. A person of varied interests, he also enjoyed woodworking, video games especially military related games, and was an avid poker player.
Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Mark D. Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. The funeral will be at 11:00 a. m. Monday, Feb. 28, 2011, at the funeral home with the Rev. Monica Ouellette officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
