Robert (Bob) Harry Jones, of State College, went to the Lord on December 20th.
He is survived by his beloved wife of forty years, Francine, (ne Porreca) son
and daughter-in-law Christopher and Shannon Jones, and six grandchildren,
Caitlin, Colleen, Liam, Ryan, Elisabeth and Gabrielle Jones. Bob was born in
Norristown, PA and is the son of the late Harry and Myrtle Jones, (ne Thomas).
He is also survived by two sisters and their husbands, Carol and Bob Nester of
Hatfield, and Nancy and Bob Brown of East Norriton, as well as many nieces and
nephews.
Bob was a Navy Veteran of the Korean War Conflict and served on an icebreaker
during Robert Byrd's scientific expedition to Antarctica in 1954. Bob loved
history, especially the Civil War, WWI and WWII eras and enjoyed discussing
historical events. In his childhood he was a boy scout and an acolyte in his
church.
Bob was an avid trout fisherman and he particularly enjoyed fishing in the
Central PA trout streams. In his later years he enjoyed trips to Erie, PA for
steelhead fishing. He loved to garden and raised his own special variety of
tomatoes and green beans each year. He was famous for his gardening skills and
was eager to share his plants with friends and neighbors.
Bob attended classes at Penn State University and obtained his Real Estate
Broker's license. He was a successful Real Estate Broker in Montgomery County,
PA for 35 years.
A visitation and memorial service will be held on Friday, December 27th
beginning with visitation at 11:30am and a 12:00pm service with the Fr. J.D.
Zatalava officiating, at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, 1034 Benner Pike.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
