Robert L. Shawley, 79, of State College, died peacefully in his sleep on Monday June 6 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center. He had bravely battled Parkinson's Disease for the last 15 years.
Born June 5, 1937, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Paul M. and Lillian L. (Lambert) Shawley.
On December 19, 1964 he married his wife the former Donna L. Chamberlain, who survives. They lived the majority of their lives together in Potters Mills. In 2006 they moved to State College. For the last two years Robert had been a resident of the Hearthside Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility.
Robert served in the United States Navy. Robert began working at Penn State University in November of 1965. He worked for General Stores until 1983. He then worked in the Athletic Department until his retirement in 1999. He was a passionate fan of Penn State Football as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Kerry R. of Centre Hall and Kevin P. of Boulder, Co. ; his daughter in law, Judith ( wife of Kerry); and his beloved grandsons, Jason and Jeremy. He is also survived by one brother, Donald E. of Millheim, and three sisters, Connie Lehman, Port Royal; Sandra Rockey, Spring Mills; and Cynthia Chamberlin, Spring Mills.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Janice Darlene Shawley in 1954 and Paula Davis in 2011.
Friends and relatives will be received Thursday, June 9, 2016, from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at noon, at the New Hope Lutheran Church, 119 Cobblestone Court, Spring Mills. The Reverend Brandon Cian will be officiating. Burial will follow in the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, Centre Hall.
