Obituary

Robert P. Starck, 94, of State College, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in College Township.
He was born on October 10, 1917 in Munson, a son of the late John Frederick William and Helen Louise (Sinfelt) Starck.
On August 16, 1991 at the Bethel Church of the Nazarene in State College, he was married to Patricia (Reese) Peterson Starck, who survives at home.
Earlier in life, Robert was involved in the family coal mining business in Philipsburg. In 1942, he entered into the U.S. Army, where over a 3 year span, he obtained the rank of Corporal. During his time in the service, Mr. Starck received the following decorations and citations: Purple Heart Recipient, Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, and 1 Bronze Arrowhead. After the service, he returned home to the family business, and eventually went to work at Rockview State Penitentiary. He retired after over 20 years of service as a Prison Guard.
Robert attended the State College Assembly of God Church.
He enjoyed gardening, the companionship of animals, and was considered by many as a sports enthusiast.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two step-daughters, Tanya L. Sharer (Jerry) of Tyrone, and Debra A. Goss of Port Matilda; three step-sons, James C. Peterson, Jr. (Debbie E.) of State College, Kevin R. Peterson (Sara) of Port Matilda, and Rick A. Peterson (Rose) of Howard; one sister, Dorothy Bainey of Philipsburg; one brother, John Stark (Donna Rae) of Philipsburg; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Alma McKim, and one brother, Woodrow Stark.
Family will receive friends from 5 - 7 PM on Sunday, February 19, 2012 and from 10:00 AM until the time of the Funeral Services on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College.
Funeral Services will be held from the Funeral Home on Monday, beginning at 11:00 AM, with Pastor Harry Brotzman, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Centre County Memorial Park.
