Robert L. Walker's Obituary
Robert L. "Hat" Walker, 71, of rural Port Matilda, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at Mt. Nittany Medical Center at State College.
He was born August 1, 1937, in Bellefonte, a son of the late Robert B. and Bertha I. Bradford Walker.
On November 27, 1968, he married Edie M. Horner who survives at home.
Bob graduated from Penns Valley High School in 1955 where he was active in sports, lettering in Baseball, Basketball, and Soccer.
He was drafted into the U. S. Army, serving from 1958 to 1960. Returning from the service, he worked at Sutton Engineering, then for forty six years worked at Weis Markets.
Mr. Walker was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Centre Hall, and a life member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 1600, State College. He enjoyed lawn work, working in his shop, turkey hunting, and bird watching. An avid sports fan, he played baseball for Centre Hall and later for Port Matilda, and was an avid and competitive racquetball player.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter Susan Rider of Altoona, one son David L. Turner and his wife Norma of Congress, AZ; four grandchildren, Jamie Cronin, Darin Rider, Julie Turner and Paul Turner and his wife Tamara; one great grandson Leo Sylvester Turner; and two sisters Linda W. Barner of Centre Hall and Gloria (Peep) Lutz and her husband Clair of Mechanicsburg; and several neices and nephews.
Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will be at 11:00 a. m. Friday, May 15, 2009, at Trinity United Church of Christ North Pennsylvania Ave. and Ridge St. Centre Hall, with the Reverend Faith McCausland officiating. Burial will be in the Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery, W. Church St. Centre Hall, PA
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Home Nursing Agency, 450 Windmere Dr., State College, PA 16801
