Robin "Rob" Newhall Haeseler, 75, of Bellefonte, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 16, 2017 at Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.
Born Friday, November 28, 1941, in New Haven, CT and grew up in Woodbridge, CT. He was the son of the late John Arville Haeseler and Ruth Nutting Haeseler (Fisher). His father was an Oscar winner in 1936 for a short film, was an accomplished photographer and short film director.
Rob studied English at the University of Vermont and received his Masters Degree in Journalism at the University of California, Berkeley. He worked for the San Francisco Chronicle as a reporter and senior editor, wrote a book on the subject of classic automobiles, was nominated for two Pulitzer Prizes, was a senior editor for Linn's Stamp News, and was the director of administration for the American Philatelic Society. Linn's Stamp News published a tribute to him on January 17, 2017.
He was an avid stamp collector and dealer who specialized in postal history. He enjoyed antiquing, painting, gardening, gourmet cooking, writing, reading, photography, the outdoors and martinis.
Surviving him are three daughters, Katherine Ashley Bruskotter and her husband Matthew Steven of Lima, OH., Bethany Newhall Haeseler-Duboyce and her husband Timothy Scott of Montreal, Canada, Rebecca Kay Mansell and her husband Matthew James of Mentor OH; one step-son, John Michael David of St. Louis, MI; one brother, John Kempthorne of Washington, DC; three granddaughters, Lydia, Gwyneth, and Morgan.
Family is arranging a memorial service to be held in Bellefonte, PA that will be announced in the future. Burial will take place with the family in Massachusetts. An online guestbook can be signed and condolences sent to the family at www.heintzelmanfunerhome.com.
