Romayne Bernitt of State College passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on her 76th birthday, Wednesday, November 22, 2006. Romayne was born in Old Forge, PA on November 22, 1930, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Sucheski) Cetera. She graduated from Old Forge High School in Old Forge, PA and Old Forge Business School. Following her graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. While living in Washington D.C., she met her husband, Daniel Bernitt, and they were married on June 26, 1954. To this union, five children were born: David, Diane, Tom, Don and Gail. The family settled in State College in 1963 and Romayne raised her family with love and devotion. She was a homemaker and went back to work full-time at Penn State after raising her children. During her retirement, Romayne was involved in many hobbies including traveling, volunteering at the hospital and schools and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her most recent trip abroad took place in April 2006 when she visited Lourdes, France with her daughter Diane.
Romayne is survived by her husband, Daniel, and her five children and their spouses; David and his wife Mary (Roanoke, VA), Diane and her husband Tony (Monkton, MD), Tom and his wife Robyn (Potomac, MD), Don and his wife Patty (Nashville, TN) and Gail and her husband Kris (Middletown, DE). She is survived by her 9 loving grandchildren: Melissa and Chris Bernitt, Steven and Jeremy Bernitt, Lisa and Lauren Litwak, and Michael, Jeffrey and Matthew Oliver.
A Funeral Mass was held on Monday, November 27, 2006 at Our Lady of Victory Church and she was interred at Centre County Memorial Park. Donations in her memory can be sent to Delaware Hospice, 911 South DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901.
