Roy K. Dunklebarger, 90, of Centre Hall, died Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
He was born October 2, 1919, a son of the late Alfred G. and Anna Mae Gettig Dunklebarger.
He married Jean Slack January 3, 1942; who survives at home.
Roy was a 1938 graduate of Bellefonte High School and attended classes at Penn State University. Earlier in life he was employed at the former Titan Metals of Bellefonte; returning to work there as a tool and die maker following his service time during World War II. Most of his life, he worked as an independent agent with Nationwide Insurance Company, retiring after thirty five years of service. Following his retirement, Roy worked for his son David in the construction business for seven years.
Roy joined the National Guard and was called to active duty during World War II; serving with the Seventh Division, in the Pacific Theater for twenty seven months. After his discharge from active duty, he continued to serve in the Reserves, earning the rank of Captain, serving a total of fourteen years.
Mr. Dunklebarger was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Centre Hall where he served on the consistory. Additional memberships included The Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks; the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1600, both in Bellefonte; and American Legion Post 779 at Centre Hall. He was very supportive of the Boy Scouts of America. Roy especially enjoyed golfing, gardening, and as a gifted carpenter spent significant time renovating his residence.
Surviving him, in addition to his wife, are four children; Michael R. Dunklebarger and his wife Jaccqueline of Graham, NC; Ann Williams and her husband Dr. David Williams of Bloomington, IN; Sally Arnold and her husband Rick of Spring Mills, and David F. Dunklebarger and his wife Mardi of Waddle; fifteen grandchildren, Jeremy, Desiree, Janine, Audrey, Jason, Natalie, David, Kate, Paul, Ellis, Mitchell, Jonathan, Kevin, Craig, and Drew; and four great grandchildren, Abbey, Spencer, Olivia and Owen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, and one sister.
Honoring his request, there will not be an open casket viewing. A graveside committal service with military honors will be held at 9:30 a. m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery, West Church St., in Centre Hall; with the Reverend Julian Hall officiating. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at Trinity United Church of Christ, Pennsylvania Ave. and East Ridge St. Centre Hall. Friends will be received informally immediately following the memorial service.
