Russell E. Mark, 91, of Rural Spring Mills, and Salem Hill Haven died Friday, July 29, 2005 at the Fairways at Brookline Village, State College.
He was born May 2, 1914 in Gregg Twp., a son of the late Albert C. and Maude O. Eungard Mark.
On July 1, 1935 he married Isabelle J. Mark who preceded him in death on May 21, 2001.
Russell graduated from Gregg Township Vocational High School in 1933.
Mr. Mark farmed in Gregg Township and later worked at Penn State University, retiring from the Poultry Department.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmers Mills where he served multiple terms on and as president of the church council and as Sunday School superintendent. Russell also served on the board and as president of the St. John's Union Cemetery Association in Farmers Mills. He was a charter member and second president of the Nittany Antique Machinery Association and devoted many hours to the Association. He was also a member of the Logan Sportsman's Club.
He enjoyed working with antique machinery, restoring and repairing gas engines, and tractors. A skilled craftsman, he made miniature merry-go-rounds and marble rollers. Hunting, raising Beagles and working with horses were other favorite hobbies of his.
Mr. Mark is survived by a daughter Miriam R. Smith and her husband Charles A. of Boalsburg; a son Paul A. and His wife Barbara Mark of Spring Mills; eight grandchildren, Lucinda Bringman and her husband Daniel of Gettysburg, Judy Coup and her husband Richard of Milton, Darcy Midtvedt and her husband Michael of Charleston, SC, Sharon DelSignore of State College. Daniel Mark of Spring Mills, Wendy Orndorf and her husband Eric of York Haven, Holly Stutzman and her husband Jon of Kutztown, and Jennifer Eddinger and her husband Steven of Lewistown, PA; and 17 great grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 9:00 - 10:30 Monday, August 1, 2005 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, PC, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will be at the funeral home at 10:30 a. m. on Monday, with the Rev. Cheryl L. Berner officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Union Cemetery, Farmers Mills, PA
