Ruth Barnes, 84, of State College, formerly of Centre Hall, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2006 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College.
She was born July 24, 1922, in Blue Knob, PA, a daughter of the late Elmer and Anne Diehl Berkheimer.
On January 22, 1946 she married Robert H. Barnes who preceded her in death on May 6, 2001.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by a daughter Adora Way and her husband Gary of Spring Mills; one son Dwight B. Barnes and his wife Eileen of rural Spring Mills; 4 grandchildren, Tami Lynn Barnes of Bellefonte, Brian Barnes of Warriors Mark, Brad Way and his wife Kim of Harrisburg and Derek Way of Puerto Varas, Chile; 4 great grandchildren Kaila and Matthew Modricker and Robert and Andy Way; one sister Delores (Sis) Stombaugh and her husband Dave, of Michigan and one brother Glenn Berkheimer and his wife Delores (Dee) also of Michigan.
She was a member of Pine Hall Lutheran Church in State College.
Ruth especially enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, playing cards and was an accomplished cook and excellent housekeeper. Most importantly, she was a devoted and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She and her husband enjoyed many retirement years at their home in Lakeland, Florida.
At her request, there will be no public visitation.
Private funeral services will be held at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA, with the Reverend Gregory P. Harbaugh officiating. Burial will be in the Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery in Centre Hall.
