Ruth Clemson Kessler, 89, of Carlisle, passed away Monday, May 13, 2013 at the Bridges at Bent Creek in Mechanicsburg.
Born on October 13, 1923 in Hogestown, Cumberland County, she is a daughter of the late Merritt and Edna (Hale) Potteiger.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Calder Ira Clemson in December 1972. On August 3, 1975, she was married to Edward F. Kessler who survives at home.
Mrs. Kessler attended Mechanicsburg High School, class of 1943.
She was in the restaurant business in Cumberland County for over 50 years, starting in 1934 at Ten Acres Restaurant in New Kingstown. Later, she and her first husband owned and operated the Carlisle Diner. She then owned and operated the Clemson House Restaurant in Middlesex.
Ruth was active in the Middlesex United Methodist Church and the Carlisle Brethren in Christ Church.
In addition to her second husband, she is survived by two daughters, Wendy Clemson Henry and Penny Clemson Costopoulos; step-children, Mary, Connie, and John Kessler; four sisters; three brothers; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and eight step-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her first husband, Ruth was preceded in death by one step-daughter, Kathy Kessler; three brothers; and one sister.
All services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Centre Hall.
