Ruth Kilhofer (Litz) Kilhofer's Obituary
Ruth A. Kilhofer, 81, of Mechanicsburg PA, formerly of State College, died Thursday November 14, 2013, at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle after a very short battle with lung cancer.
Born November 28, 1931, in DuBois, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and J. Jane Moore Litz. On September 21, 1957 she married Richard A. Kilhofer, who survives her.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Alpheus Dee Litz and two sisters, Sarah Jane Maier and Elva Leonard.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Kilhofer Gnatt and son-in-law Gregory C. Gnatt of Mechanicsburg, and four loving grandchildren, Andrew, Emily, Alex and Katie.
She was a 1949 graduate of Sandy Township High School, DuBois.
Ruth worked for Rockwell Mfg. Company in DuBois for several years. In the early 1970's she was hired at Penn State University, Univ. Park, where she was a secretary in several departments. She advanced in her administrative assistant roles, landing in Old Main as a secretary to the Director of Continuing Education. She retired from Penn State in 1992.
Ruth was a devoted wife, mother and Nana and an avid Penn State Football fan where she proudly cheered for her Nittany Lions. She was a devout member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in State College, and more recently of St. Katherine Drexel and St. Joseph's in Mechanicsburg. She volunteered for many years for the American Red Cross, and enjoyed bowling, golfing, photography and scrapbooking.
Recently, she especially enjoyed her bowling outings with the girls, the Wii bowling championship tournaments with all her friends at Country Meadows, her caring friends at St. Joe's and sharing her joy of Penn State with her special friends at Holiday Bronze. "Go Penn State!!"
A funeral mass service will be held on Thursday November 21, 2013 at 10:30 AM in the Chapel at Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 1000 Claremont Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
