Ruth Margaret Owen Brown Born May 21st, 1898 - Died November 23rd, 2006. She lived 108 years, 6 months, 2 days, having had a healthy and wonderful life.
She was a native of Washingtonville, N.Y., the youngest of 6 children. After graduating from New Paltz, NY Normal School in 1917 she taught for a time. In 1922 she married H. Emmett Brown, a graduate of Univ. of Rochester. Later he received an EdD from Columbia Univ. The Brown's had two children. A son, Hugh S. Brown was born in 1923. He died in a car accident in 1953. Their daughter, Marcia Beppler and her husband David, live in Port Matilda, PA. The Browns were married for 56 years, until Emmett died in 1978. There are 6 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
During her marriage, the Browns work took the family all over the world, including some rather exotic and, at that time, seldom-visited places such as Burma, Taiwan, Afghanistan and Somalia. Ruth had fond memories of each location in which she lived during the 1950s and '60s.
Following her husband's death, she continued to live in Lakewood, N.J. In 1987 she moved to Brookline Village in State College to be near her daughter.
Her wishes are being followed (as were her husband's) to give her body to medical science. There will be no visitation. A celebration of the life of Ruth O. Brown, is to be held on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 2:00 p. m. in the State College Presbyterian Church, 132 W. Beaver Ave. State College, PA. Her immediate family, all of her six grandchildren and extended family will attend. The community is invited.
