Samuel C. Witherite Sr., 75, of State College passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2019.

Born August 13, 1943, he was a son of the late Elmer James and Charlotte Elizabeth (Hall) Witherite. On April 4, 1963, he married the love of his life, Sondra J. (Shuey) Witherite who survives at home.

Sam was a Superintendent for the State College Borough Water Authority. He retired after 35 years of service.

He enjoyed riding his tractors, farming, going to machine auctions, and traveling. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Along with his wife Sondra, he is survived by one son, Samuel Witherite Jr. and his wife Dianne of Greatfalls, MT; two daughters, Kimberly Rudy and her husband Daniel of PA Furnace, Karen Dunlap and her husband Sean of State College; eight grandchildren, Ramsey Witherite (Jessica), Raina Leavens (Moses), Dani Houtz (Dustin), Tara Rudy (Cole) Jarred Rudy (Reanna), Ryan Dunlap, Tyler Dunlap, and Shayla Dunlap; four great-grandchildren, Sadie Witherite, Kiara Barto, Carter Houtz, and Camryn Houtz. Also surviving are his two brothers, Lynn Witherite (Beverly), Lawrence "Larry" Witherite, and his sister Edna Ritter (Sam).

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Malcom, Carl, and Wayne Witherite, and one sister, Marie Witmer.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2019, at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral Home, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801. The funeral service will immediately follow with the Rev. Edward Preston officiating. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family at Centre County Memorial Park, State College.
