Obituary

Sara E. Babin, 86, of Pennsylvania Furnace, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born May 17, 1931 in Johnstown, PA, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Katherine (High) Bonner. On April 22, 1950, she married Peter Babin who preceded her in death in 2001. They were married for 50 wonderful years.

Sara attended the Faith Baptist Church in State College.

Throughout her life she held many jobs; she taught at the South Hills Business School in the 1960's, she was an office manager for McQuaide Blasco Law Firm in State College, and then went on to work as a secretary in the PA Commission on Sentencing. She was also one of the first female bus drivers in the State of Pennsylvania. Her most important and rewarding job however was being a mom and raising her family.

She was a Scout Leader for all scouting organizations and Sara and her husband would often camp at the Hidden Valley Campground in Mifflinburg where she played piano and taught Bible School. Sara was a proud supporter of the State College High School Football and Band programs. She devoted a lot of her time cooking meals for them and going to the games.

Surviving Sara are two children; Denise K. Thal (Andy) of Bellefonte, and Gary W. Babin (Cathy) of Lancaster; one brother, Gary P. Bonner (Carol) of TN; four grandchildren, Heather Haines, of Philipsburg, Whitney Babin-Yeo of Lancaster, Paige Babin of Pittsburgh and Brett Babin of Detroit; four great grandchildren and four great - great grandchildren.

Friends will be received on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services at 2:00 pm at the Faith Baptist Church, 647 Valley Vista Drive, State College, PA, with Pastor Drew Fenstermacher officiating.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
