Obituary

Shirley Williams Bradford, 82, passed away peacefully at home after a long illness on Saturday, May 14, 2016. She was born at home in Waddle, PA, Benner Township and was the daughter of the late David James and Sarah Agnes Williams. Shirley married Phillip Carl Bradford on May 31, 1952. Phillip preceded her in death in 1981. They have five children, Craig (Barbara) Bradford of Dillsburg, PA, Phyllis (Randy) Hoffman of Pleasant Gap, Tim (Karen) Bradford of Pleasant Gap, Lucinda Bradford of Irvington, AL and Tenecia Bradford at home; two sisters, Nancy Williams of State College and Linda (Richard) Poorman of Centre Hall; Sister-In-Law, Glady Williams, Bellefonte; Stepbrother, Charles Brewer, State College; grandchildren, Kandi (Jeremy) Catterton, Tabitha, Terri and Shawn Bradford and nine great-grandchildren. Along with her husband, Phillip, she was preceded in death by her brother, David J. Williams II. Shirley was retired from Penn State University, the Office of the Dean of the Graduate School as an administrative assistant. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed taking care of her family. Most of Shirley's retirement was devoted to nurturing her family's growth and development which brought her great joy and happiness. A memorial service will be Saturday, May 21, 2016, at the Mount Nittany United Methodist Church, 1500 E. Branch Road, Lemont. Friends will be received at 10:30am with the service to follow at 11:30am. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can either be made to the Heintzelman Funeral Home, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA 16801 to help defray the cost of the funeral, the American Cancer Society or the Mount Nittany United Methodist Church. The family would like to express our gratitude for the many prayers and support through this time but especially to the wonderful staff at the Home Nursing Agency's Hospice program.
