Shirley Jane Wheeler, 89, of Pine Grove Mills died August 12, 2016 at her residence.

Born April 4, 1927 in Altoona she was a daughter of the late Ray and Pauline (Caveny) Soyster.

On February 19, 1950 in Lewistown she married Nelson L. Wheeler who survives at home.

Shirley was a graduate of Selinsgrove High School and the Thompson Business College in Harrisburg. She worked as a legal secretary both in Harrisburg and State College. She then went to work for the State College Area School District she worked throughout the district, but spent the majority of her time at Ferguson Township Elementary, where she retired after 40+ years of service.

She was a member of St Paul Lutheran Church in Pine Grove Mills, where she was very active in her younger years. She was also a member of the State College Women's Club, the Ferguson Township Lions Club and the Community In Action Group of Pine Grove Mills; she was also a former Girl Scout Leader.

In addition to her husband she is survived by daughter, Bonnie Jane McMiniment of State College and her daughter Tricia; son, Gregory Nelson Wheeler of Bellefonte and his fianc Bonnie Tate; and his four children, Amanda Wheeler and her daughter Annabelle; Gregory N. Wheeler and his wife Lisa; April Wilkins and her husband Josh and their daughter, Brielle and Alison Cook and her husband Al; son, Todd Harold Wheeler and his wife Kathleen and their three children, Jessica Michael and her husband Donald and their daughters, Cloe and Ava; Toni Wheeler and her fianc Thomas Armstrong and their son Hunter; and Todd Wheeler.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Harold Soyster and a sister Patricia Hommel.

Friends and family will be received from 6-8 PM, Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. Funeral Services will be 11:00, Wednesday, August 17th at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 227 W. Pine Grove Road, Pine Grove Mills with The Reverend Paul Tomkiel officiating. Entombment will follow at Centre County Memorial Park.
