Shirley E. Zerby, 85, of State College, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at the Hearthside Nursing Home, State College.

Born January 16, 1931, in Altoona, PA, she was a daughter of the late Jobie and Margaret (Horner) Hockenberry. On June 3, 1950, she married George E. Zerby who preceded her in death on November 29, 1995.

In her younger days she enjoyed riding motorcycles and hunting. She loved spending time with her family, friends, and her dog Ginger Nicole.

Shirley is survived by one daughter, Dianne Zerby, of State College, and one sister, Esther Jane Chesney, of Altoona.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hockenberry.

A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016, at 10:00 AM at the Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Services, 226. S. Pennsylvania Ave, Centre Hall, PA 16828, with The Reverend Randy Smyre officiating.

The family wishes to recognize and thank Alpha and Bellefonte EMS Services, Houck Home Care, Home Nursing and Hospice Agency and Hearthside Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate assistance, and care for Mrs. Zerby in the last few weeks. We deeply appreciate all your help.
