Steryl E. Grove, 77, of Romulus, NY, formerly of State College, died Monday, February 27, 2006 at Geneva General Hospital, in Geneva, NY.
He was born April 22, 1928, in Gregg Twp., a son of the late Guyer and Alma Leister Grove
On July 9, 1954 he married Lois Neidigh who preceded him in death June 27, 1994.
Mr. Grove graduated from Gregg Township Vocational High School and served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Early in life he was involved in strip mining operations. Later he worked for Dewey Krumrine's Esso and for Don Ruhl Oil Companies and farmed a 110 acre farm for the Campbell family in State College. He later went to work for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and retired from that position.
Earlier in his life he was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Farmers Mills. He was a Member of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Bellefonte and a past commander of American Legion Post 245 in State College.
Prior to his illness, he especially enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing
He is survived by two sons, Steryl (Butch) L. Grove and his wife Marci of Huntingdon and Harold William (Bill) Grove and his wife Gail Marie, of Romulus, NY, with whom he resided; eight grandchildren, Michelle Lynn and Heather Lee Grove, Dawn Marie Grove Cook, Apryl Louise, Steryl Christopher, and Jennifer Grove, Angela Thomas, and Jackie Novosel; nine great-grandchildren Savannah and Tiara Niver, Hope Grove and Jarod Cook, Athena Thomas, and Thomas, Trista, Justin, and Caitlyn Novosel; five sisters, Gladys H. Myers, of Spring Mills, Virginia L. Weaver of State College, Ruby B. Frank of Centre Hall, Lucille E. Knupp of Lancaster, and Hetty E. Runkle of Centre Hall.
In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by an adopted son, John A. (Jack) Grove and a grandson, Brian Grove.
Friends will be received from noon to 1:30 p. m. Friday, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA. The funeral will be at 1:30 p. m. at the funeral home with Rev. S. Leigh Pick officiating. Burial will be private, with military honors, at St. John's Union Church Cemetery in Farmers Mills.
