IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan R.
"Sue" (Runk) Brodie
September 12, 1951 – March 12, 2025
Susan R. Brodie, 73, of State College, went peacefully into the arms of her Lord on March 12, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Mount Union, PA to Wayne E. and Dorothy J. Runk, Susan defied expectations throughout her life. Diagnosed with Spina Bifida and given only six months to live at birth, she instead lived a full and meaningful 73 years, overcoming numerous health challenges through her unwavering faith. Her favorite verse, Philippians 4:13—"I can do all things through him who strengthens me"—was a testimony she lived daily.
On August 3, 1985, Susan married Lance W. Brodie, her beloved husband with whom she would have celebrated 40 years of marriage this summer. After retiring from Penn State University in 1990, she dedicated herself to raising her children.
A devoted member of the State College Alliance Church, she led the Disability Ministry for many years, using her own experiences to inspire and support others. In her final moments, she was comforted by the prayers of her pastor, Aaron Henning.
Susan was an avid quilter, a loyal Penn State sports fan, and enjoyed solving puzzles in her free time. Despite her physical challenges, she maintained her independence, often venturing out for shopping trips and visits to the movie theater. Above all, she cherished sharing these activities with the people she loved most.
Those who knew Susan will remember her extraordinary compassion. Even in her final days, she expressed her love to everyone who visited.
Susan is survived by her husband, Lance W. Brodie; her son Ian L. Brodie (Brenda); her daughter Alisha B. Holdcroft (Steven); grandchildren Brodie, Levi, and Eden Holdcroft; siblings Wayne C. Runk (Kathi), Ronald E. Runk (Carol), and Peggy J. Wien (James); and dozens of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Danielle, father, mother, and one niece, Jennifer.
Services will be held on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at the State College Alliance Church, 1221 W. Whitehall Rd., State College, PA 16801. A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m., and a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Interment will take place at Centre County Memorial Park.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Haky/Georgiana Centre County Funeral Home. An online guestbook may be signed and condolences left for the family at www.hakygeorgianafh.com.
