Obituary

Vaughn Monroe Rider Sr., 86, of Bellefonte, died Friday, August 4, 2006 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center in State College.
He was born February 18, 1920 in Benner Township, a son of the late Calvin M. and Beatrice L. Witmer Rider.
On May 25, 1940 he married Marie E. Tressler who survives at home.
Mr. Rider was a dairy farmer most of his life and also worked at National Gypsum Company of Bellefonte and later for O. R. L. at Penn State (now A. R. L.) retiring in 1989.
A charter member of Buffalo Run United Methodist Church, he also served as a choir director and youth director at the church.
He is also a member of Logan Grange and a Life Member of Pleasant Gap Fire Company, and AARP. He was a former member of the Eastern Milk Producers.
As a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Mr. Rider especially cherished his family and spending time with them. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and country music, and loved farming. He was an exceptionally gifted repair-person and problem solver, and was well known for his helpfulness in fixing things for people, and known for his sense of humor.
He is survived by three daughters, Elaine Muriel Rider Lutz and her husband Kenneth of Boonsboro, MD, Juanita Marie Rider Wolfe and her husband Harry of Centre Hall, and Ruby Darlene Rider Hersh and her husband David of State College; five sons, Vaughn Monroe Rider Jr. and his wife Shirley of Pleasant Gap, Edwin L. Rider and his wife Karen of Centre Hall, Randall Lewis Rider and his wife Mary of Madisonburg, Kevin Hugh Rider and his wife Genevieve of Spring Mills, and Leslie Dwayne Rider and his wife Sheri of Port Matilda; one sister Ernestine Tressler of Pleasant Gap, and four brothers, Glenn H. and Kermit L. Rider both of Bellefonte, Harrison E. Rider of Centre Hall and Lawrence O. Rider of Howard; twenty eight grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, three sisters Veronica Gamber, Esperance Poorman and Joyce Mayes and two brothers Loye and Dair Rider preceded him in death.
Friends will be received from 6 - 9 p. m. Monday, August 7, 2006 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 226 S. Pennsylvania Ave. Centre Hall, PA and from 10:00 a. m. until 11:00 a. m. Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at Buffalo Run United Methodist Church, Buffalo Run Road, Bellefonte. The funeral will be at 11:00 a. m. at the church with the Rev. Duane Bardo officiating. Burial will follow in Meyer Cemetery, Buffalo Run Road, Bellefonte, PA
