Virgilio Diaz, 90, a twenty six year resident of State College, died Thursday, December 6, 2007, at Hearthside Nursing Center in State College.
He was born December 9, 1916, in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, a son of the late Jorge and Belen Diaz.
Mr. Diaz was married to the former Maria Cristina Diaz who preceded him in death on March 31, 2006.
Surviving are his daughter Lourdes Diaz Soto; eight grandchildren, Deane G. Soto of State College, Maria Ponton of Myrtle Beach, Daniel E. Soto of Ann Arbor, MI, Tamara Diaz of Lewistown, Theodore, Karen, Keith and Bruce Diaz, all of New York; a grand daughter-in-law Kosha Thakore; three great grandchildren, Joey, Johnny, and Tony Ponton of Myrtle Beach; one sister, Carmen Diaz of Puerto Rico; two daughters-in-law, Theodora Diaz of Port Matilda, Sally Diaz of New York; and a former son-in-law, Dennis Soto-Medina of San German Puerto Rico.
Virgilio served in the U. S. Army during World War II, earning several medals and citations for his service.
Friends will be received from 12:30 to 1:30 on Monday, December 10, 2007, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will follow at 1:30 p. m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA.
