Patton
October 31, 1945 – February 11, 2019
Walter L. Patton, 73, of State College, died Monday, February 11, 2019 at Mount Nittany Medical Center.
He was born October 31, 1945, in Philipsburg, PA; the son of the late Walter L. Patton and Verna (Wagner) Patton.
Mr. Patton was an Army Veteran who was honorably discharged in 1971. He then went on to work for the University Area Join Authority as a plant operator, in State College. He retired after 35 years of service.
Walter was a member of the Woody Crest United Methodist Church in State College, a member of the State College American Legion Post 245, and a bowler for the Nittany Valley Bowling League.
He was a devoted sports fan who loved Penn State, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Dallas Cowboys. He also enjoyed casinos and cruises and he loved visiting different navy bases to visit his daughter Sherry who was a military spouse. He also loved visiting his son Jerry in Florida. He specifically enjoyed going on cruises with his son Jerry. One of his most memorial experiences was going on a Tiger Cruise on board the USS KEARSARGE (LHD-3) with his son-in-law Dale, who was in the Navy. Walter was a very loving father and grandfather, his family was his world. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, especially his youngest granddaughter Katie, who took care of him a lot.
Surviving him are two children Sherry (Patton) Tischler and her husband Dale of Spring Mills and Jerry Patton of Lady Lake, FL; three grandchildren, Christina Tischler, Stacie Tischler, and Katie Tischler; three great grandchildren, Aiden, Gage, and Mason; a niece Debbie Scitti and nephews Denny and Mike Crust.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Patton; sister, Mary Ellen Crust, and brother-in-law, Jay Crust.
Family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11:30 on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at the Woody Crest United Methodist Church, 219 W. Clearview Ave., State College, PA 16803. The memorial service will immediately follow with The Rev. Dr. Renee Ford officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Gregg Township Fire Department CO 7, P.O. Box 82, Spring Mills, PA 16875
